Workable Centre Network (WCN) Europe

About the Project

Erica, working out of Manchester UK, managed on behalf of Workable the development of the Workable Centre Network (WCN) -Europe project.

WCN Europe wished to expand its work into other European countries so that within five years there was a comprehensive network of partner countries and support centres for disabled university students and graduates throughout Europe. The main focus of the Network was on the:
-Establishment of new centres
-Consolidation of existing centres and in country networks of centres
-International work experience programmes
-Interactive and internet based job search, entrepreneurial skills training and
mentoring
-Involvement with the establishment of local employer networks on disability

As lead partner on the project, Erica co-wrote a WCN Handbook: A Guide and Information Manual to assist in the development of national centres for the eight European-networked partners to use as a blueprint template to aide them in the development of their bespoke centres.

Klaus Miesenberger, University of Linz Assistant Professor of Computer Science, and his team used the prototype Centre as a guide to set up similar centres across Austria for blind and partially sighted students.

The WCN-Austria Centres proved so successful that Assistant Professor Miesenberger was able to secure further funding to establish a new network of counselling services, to go hand-in-hand with the existing network of WCN centres he setup in Austria.
